Susan Lenox: Her Fall and Rise
Released Oct. 16, 1931
Directed by Robert Z. Leonard
Cast includes Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, Jean Hersholt, Alan Hale, John Miljan
The teaming of Garbo and Clark Gable was eagerly anticipated. The story of Susan Lenox is often meandering and concerns the story of an abused woman who resorts to prostitution in order to survive. Part of the film's uneveness was due to censorship issues which required numerous scrip revisions and re-shoots. Nevertheless, the film is an entertaining romp and the two leads sizzle in their scenes together. There was talk of future Gable/Garbo collaborations but none would materialize.
Scene from Susan Lenox
Next Film: Mata Hari
