Mauritz Stiller was set to direct Garbo's second American film was soon replaced by Fred Niblo. Stiller, who was not accustomed to Hollywood movie-making and was weak with the English language, was very upset over his dismissal as was Garbo. She was a professional, however, and remained for the long 4-month shoot. She was cast as yet another vamp with men falling at her feet. She follows her true love, Antonio Moreno, to Argentina, breaking hearts along the way.
