Melvyn Douglas
Douglas was born April 5, 1901 in Macon, Georgia. His career in acting started on the Broadway stage in 1928 and he later came to Hollywood and became a popular romantic leading man to legendary screen actresses like Marlene Dietrich, Myrna Loy, Irene Dunne as well as serving as Garbo's leading man in three of her films. He was the man who made Garbo laugh in Ninotchka. He fluctuated between Broadway and film acting but concentrated on film character roles during the last two decades of his career. He won two Supporting Actor Academy Awards, for Hud (1963) and Being There (1979). He died in 1981.
